Walk among Uganda’s rhinos
You don’t have to travel far to discover something new. Cycle the roads and paths around the Kids of Africa Village, passing cattle, water boreholes and communities along the way. Enjoy views of Lake Victoria and stop for a freshly made rolex before pedalling home again.
Turn a day out into an adventure
Stay overnight and the possibilities grow. Ride to the shores of Lake Victoria at Garuga, stopping at schools, markets or other places of interest along the way. Or continue to Mpanga Central Forest Reserve, where rainforest, rare birds, butterflies and monkeys await at the end of the road.

You don’t have to go far to see something new. A loop through the neighbourhood takes you past cattle on the road and girls filling jerrycans at the water boreholes, with the wide blue of Lake Victoria opening up between the trees. Halfway round, we stop for a rolex — chapati rolled around fried egg, made fresh at the roadside, and Uganda’s answer to fast food.

1 nightTo the shores of Lake Victoria
Eighteen kilometres from the village to Garuga, taken at an easy pace with plenty of reasons to stop: Kisubi-Mapeera Secondary School, Michelangelo College for Creative Arts, a busy roadside market or a village church, depending on what catches your interest. You spend the night at a camp resort right on the lake, in a tent or a room, with the beach a few steps away.

2 nightsInto the rainforest
Forty-five kilometres inland brings you to Mpanga Central Forest Reserve, 453 hectares of protected rainforest with some 500 species of tree. Leave the bikes and walk the forest paths: red-tailed monkeys overhead, butterflies in the light shafts, and birds that birdwatchers travel a long way to see. You sleep at the official campsite inside the reserve, in a tent or a simple room, with the forest awake around you all night.

At the Kids of Africa Village near Entebbe.
Recommended for 15 years or above
We provide the bicycles – solid mountain bikes, nothing fancy – along with tools, panniers and rain ponchos. Bring your own cycling clothes, sunscreen and a hat. Your guides grew up at Kids of Africa and have been riding these roads since they were children.
